I've gotten in some amazing pearls- South Sea, Akoya, Tahitian, and freshwater- and wanted to share some photos of what they've become. I love playing with the different types of pearls and seeing what I can make with them. Right now it's hard to call a favorite, the new Kasumi look-a-like pearls (freshwater) are so interesting and of course Akoya pearls are the standard necklace pearl, but I think I still lean towards South Sea pearls. Big bad baubles that brighten up any design! Simple little bracelet with rainbow colored sapphire faceted rondelles and a single silver South Sea baroque pearl. One of my favorites, this bracelet is composed of shimmering scapolite faceted rondelles and a single golden South Sea baroque pearl. Here's one of the Kasumi look-a-like pearls in action. Kasumi pearls are bead nucleated freshwater pearls from Lake Kasumi-ga-Ura, some 40 miles northeast of Tokyo, Japan. Rare and expensive, they've found a cult following for their natural coloring and rippled surface. The enterprising pearl farmers in China have started cultivating these gorgeous pearls, making it more affordable to own a striking pearl. The rest of the bracelet chain is hand fabricated from faceted peach freshwater pearls and white freshwater keshi pearls. This wedding inspired bracelet showcases white freshwater off-round and potato pearls alternating with creamy scapolite wire wrapped to double lengths of 14 karat gold fill chain. A pair of AA+ lavender freshwater pearls take center stage as the drops for the sterling silver ear handformed ear wires. Watermelon tourmaline slices and white keshi freshwater pearls. The keshi pearls that I got in for this necklace were so beautiful, smooth surface with great luster. Perhaps the highest grade keshi pearls I've had in so far. Yellow, orange, and padparadscha sapphire rondelles alternating with white freshwater keshi pearls. This set of pearls has a more organic shape than the necklace above, but that's actually the look I was searching for with this necklace. I had gotten in a pair of AAA Akoya pearls that needed a nice showcase and I was looking to set some loose gems that I had- this is the result. London blue topaz round gems in 14 karat gold fill wrap settings and London blue topaz faceted wire wrapped pears flank the pretty pearls. Akoya pearls are saltwater cultured pearls, and when you think of the classic pearl necklace you are thinking about them. Here's a little something different from the previous earrings- white freshwater potato pearls with 14 karat gold wrap bezel set Swiss blue topaz pear gems. Sweet, petite earrings that are a far cry from your everyday pearls.
